Located at the very bottom of the Word screen, this displays the current page and section you are on, and a total page count.

The right side of the status line contains status indicators. These are like "on/off switches." Double-click once and the function is turned on. Double-click again, and the function is turned off. If the letters in the indicator are dim, the function is turned off.

Other status indicators will appear in the status line as you perform certain tasks.
